The weather service reported approximately 2.6 inches of rain in Ketchikan over 36 hours. Rainfall totals at higher elevations ranged from 5 to 9 inches. Landslides can be unpredictable, but this one occurred without certain other risk factors.
Race to Alaska Update
Thirty-two teams departed Victoria Harbor on Wednesday, setting out for Ketchikan, Alaska, in a non-motorized boat race. The winning team will receive $10,000.
Landslide Impact and Damage Assessment
Clear skies on Monday morning revealed the full extent of Sunday’s landslide, which traveled 1,100 feet down a hillside, damaging the Rainbird Trail and several homes in the Second Avenue area.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported that Copper Ridge is under review but currently poses no immediate threat to the public.
