Ongoing Situation: Wolfe Point Landslide
As reported earlier‚ a significant landslide occurred at 5544 and 5570 North Tongass Highway on Wednesday‚ March 20‚ 2025‚ at approximately 1:28 a.m. While thankfully no injuries were reported‚ the slide caused damage to private property and necessitated the evacuation of at least one residence.
Crews are working tirelessly to clear the debris and stabilize the area. An excavator is currently pushing boulders off the Wolfe Point landslide debris pile‚ but significant work remains. The highway will remain closed for the remainder of the weekend to ensure the safety of commuters and work crews.
Traffic Alert
North Tongass Highway remains CLOSED north of the airport ferry terminal due to the landslide. Please seek alternative routes. We will provide updates as soon as the highway reopens.
